Affiliate fit analysis
Affiliate Fit Analysis — War by War
_Public fit analysis, run once pre-launch per the Monetization & Affiliate Policy (Prompt Manager id 24). Re-run only if the business model changes._
Subject: 120 major wars, from the Trojan War to conflicts current as of September 2026. Audience: History readers, students, and people following current conflicts.
Verdict: affiliate monetization is a bad fit. Rejected.
Reasons:
- Weak buyer intent. Readers arrive to understand wars, not to buy things. There is no natural product category where a link serves the reader's actual purpose.
- Trust-critical topic. Casualty figures, war crimes attribution, and contested histories are the product. A commission-bearing link next to a genocide article is a structural conflict of interest, regardless of how well disclosed.
- No honest category fits. Book retail is the only defensible category (history books), but bookshelf links do not justify an affiliate program across a site of this shape — and the verification burden on terms, acceptance, and rates could not be met without inventing details, which the policy forbids.
Programs evaluated
None are recommended. No affiliate programs are named here because none were verified to exist, accept publishers in this niche, and fit the subject honestly — and inventing candidates would violate the policy. Anything uncertain would have been marked UNVERIFIED; there is nothing to mark.
What is permitted
- Plain editorial references to books, sources, archives, museums, and memorial sites, with full citations and no affiliate parameters, tracking codes, or commercial links.
- A future reader-supported model (donations, memberships) would be the only compatible direction; it is not active at launch.
Sponsored content
Banned outright (see policy.md). There is no sponsored-content pipeline to disclose.
