Monetization policy

Monetization Policy — War by War

_This policy is public and applies to every page on War by War. It is reviewed whenever the business model changes._

Position

War by War is not monetized at launch. No affiliate links, no sponsored content, no display advertising, and no paid placement appear on this site today. This policy exists so readers can hold us to it, and so any future change is made openly.

Why no affiliate links

War by War documents wars — their causes, course, and cost. That is a trust-critical subject with weak buyer intent: readers come to understand, not to shop. The Monetization & Affiliate Policy (Prompt Manager id 24) requires a fit analysis, and the evidence here says affiliate is a bad fit. Placing product links on articles about genocide, famine, or mass casualties would corrupt the site's core promise — "every figure attributed and every gap labeled" — for revenue that would be trivial and trust that would be gone. Affiliate monetization is rejected for this site.

Why no sponsored content

Sponsored content on a site documenting wars is a conflict of interest in the most literal sense: someone paying to appear beside an account of a massacre is influence over the record. Sponsored content is banned outright for this site. No paid content is accepted, so there is no need for a labeled/unlabeled distinction — there is nothing to label.

Why no pay-to-rank

No rankings, verdicts, casualty figures, tier assignments, or editorial judgments on this site are for sale. There is no mechanism by which a third party can pay to alter what this site says about any war, any figure, or any source.
